

Robert L. Holmes was born on October 30, 1949, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was the son of Ervin and JoAnn (Burkey) Holmes. He grew up in Oklahoma City, attending Oklahoma City Public Schools and graduating from Western Heights High School in 1968. Following his education he entered the United States Navy for four years. Following his discharge he began his career with Western Electric, At&t and Lucent Technologies as a production technician, retiring from Lucent after 30 years of service. During his many years with Lucent he enjoyed playing on the coed softball team, bowling league, and golf league. After a few short months of retirement he couldn’t sit still any longer and went to a temp agency which eventually led to a permanent position at Hitachi where he retired for good in January 2014. He met and married the one and only true love of his life, Nancy on October 1, 1994, and they shared twenty two years together, sharing their children and grandchildren, all five of their grandchildren had him wrapped around their fingers and he enjoyed spoiling them rotten. His many hobbies included fishing, golfing, computer games, watching movies, and spending time with his family. For all who knew Robert his “happy go lucky jokester personality” will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his precious mother-in-law; Beatrice Holt.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy of the home; two daughters, Shannon Sullivan and husband Jay of Norman, and Shayna Givens of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one son, Davin Burbee and wife Ticarra of Belton, Missouri; five grandchildren he adored, Jake Sullivan, McGraw Givens, Drake Burbee, Taylor Burbee, and Daegon Burbee; one sister, Debbie Holmes and husband Don of Orlando, Oklahoma; nieces, Dedra Holmes of Yukon, Oklahoma, Gina Franklin and husband Shawn of Scottsdale, Arizona; one nephew, Delon Holmes of New Mexico; and many aunts; uncles; cousins, and great friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016, at 10:00 am, with Rev. James Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Norman IOOF Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Integris Hospice House, 13920 Quailbrook Drive, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73134.
