Theresa Louise (Shinert) Smith was born on January 2nd, 1964 to Gregory E. Shinert and Eloise V. Shinert in Richmond, Virginia. She moved from her earthly life to her heavenly life on March 6th, 2019 at the V.A. Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Theresa graduated from Norman High School in 1982. After graduating from high school she pursued a career in the Army National Guard and Air Force. She was stationed in the Philippines and served as a Military Police Officer.
At the time of her death Theresa was a Sergeant with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and worked at the Lexington Assessment and Reception Center.
In her youth Theresa was an avid softball player. She also played on the military softball teams during her time of service. She has been a softball umpire, coached Ashley’s softball teams and watched as many OU softball games as possible. During her recent time in the hospital she was still keeping track of her Sooners. She looked forward to teaching her granddaughter, Cheyenne, how to play ball.
Theresa’s “baby” was her motorcycle. She enjoyed riding as often as she could. When she couldn’t ride, or play, she would fish. She had many opportunities to fish with family and friends during the last two years of her cancer journey. She was very grateful that she could make those memories.
Theresa is survived by her partner of 21 years, Cathy Suttle; her cats Molly and Frankie; her children Christopher J. Smith, Ashley N. Weyrough and her husband, Robert Weyrough Jr.; her grandchildren Chloe Smith, Hope Smith, Cheyenne Richardson, Dylan Willeford and Samantha Weyrough; her brother, Russell Shinert and his wife Leona Shinert and their children and spouses; sister Rose Shinert; sister in law and fishing buddy Patricia Stafford, and many other family members and friends whom she loved and cherished.
She was proceeded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Eileen Shinert.
