Walter attended Oklahoma State University as well as The University of Central Oklahoma. He was a homebody and enjoyed reading, cooking, and making jewelry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lou Ann Gardner Martz; and brother Dr. William Robert Gardner.
He is survived by his daughters: Sarah Lewis, Kelley Nottingham and husband Dave Nottingham, Laura Bowman and husband John Bowman. His sisters Helen Gardner of Norman, Oklahoma; and Clara Sue Forrester of Weatherford, Texas; and brother Dr. Bennett T and Diane Gardner of Estes Park, Colorado. Granddaughter Marissa Lewis. Great grandchildren: Bryson and Blakelee. As well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
