He was born September 22, 1971 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Bonnie and William Umphrey.
He graduated from Mustang High School and went on to attend Chico State University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree.
He worked in many hospitals doing respiratory therapy; he worked for the USPS, and for the ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve)
Jerome was a career military man. He served in the US Army from 1988 to 1992, then the reserves and in the National Guard from 2000 to 2019. He deployed to Panama from December 1989 to February 1990, Korea from October 1990 to September 1991, Saudi Arabia from January 2003 to July 2003, Iraq from January 2008 to October 2008, and Afghanistan from June 2011 to March 2012. He earned his Order of Saint Maurice award; two Combat Infantry badges, Expert Marksman and he achieved Pathfinder in the Army.
His hobbies included motorcycles, shooting guns, and hunting. He also loved to watch football, especially LSU, OU, and Dallas Cowboy games.
He enjoyed his family trips to Louisiana, a trip to Niagra Falls, and Lake Texoma.
Serving as pallbearers are Jeremy Umphrey, Jonathan Umphrey, Jeff LeBlanc, Jason LeBlanc, Izabella Umphrey, Dokota Bumgarner, Brendan Umphrey, TA Long and Joey LeBlanc.
Jerome is preceded in death by his father, William, his daughter Sterling Umphrey, his grandparents Tedd and Lois Long, and Art and Helen Gilbertson.
Left to cherish his precious memory are his mother, Bonnie, his brothers: Jeremy and wife Dianne Umphrey, and Jonathan and his wife Shannon Umphrey, and his stepdaughters: Skylar Bumgarner, Dokota Bumgarner, and Ranie Bumgarner, and his granddaughter Ainsley Odom.
