

Alice M. Hammond, 89, of Hanahan entered into eternal rest on January 28, 2015 surrounded by her family. Alice was born on January 20, 1926 in Littlestown, PA to L.A. and Bertha Smith. She devoted her life to her family and taking care of her home. She loved working in her yard with her flowers, sewing, crocheting and doing arts and crafts. She was member of Divine Redeemer Catholic Church and participated in the Women’s Club. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her three children, Gloria Blanton (Marty), John Hammond (Sandra), and Karen Funderburke (Mike); six grandchildren, Becky Brown, Allison Bullock, Christina Valipour, Joan Hammond, Ellis Hammond, and Evan Hammond. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren and four sisters. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Kenneth E. Hammond and one son, James D. Hammond. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the Pinewood House and the Hospice Center of Charleston for their wonderful care and compassion. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in Alice’s name to Hospice Center of Charleston, 676 Wando Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 or Heartland Hospice, 1064 Gardner Road, Charleston, SC 29407. Visitation will take place on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 1106 Fort Drive, Hanahan, SC 29410. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
