Roger was born on June 22, 1961, in Columbia, South Carolina. He was the son of Howard and Gertrude Powell.
Roger was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with his kids by coaching their sporting events over the years and now found joy in attending nearly every one of his grandchildren’s games. He coached hundreds of kids in a variety of youth sports in Summerville over the years. His faith and membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was a big part of his life. Roger spent many years and countless hours serving the Lord throughout a variety of roles and assignments where he touched the lives of many-especially many of the youth of the Charleston area.
His personality was as big as his smile and could make anyone around him feel loved. If anyone needed an activity planned, especially ones that required food to be cooked, you would find Roger involved. His roles at church often asked of him to speak in front of large groups of people, which he would do, always with a joke and a story at the ready. Roger was thankful to work with many great friends in the building/cabinet industry for over 35 years. He enjoyed taking spur of the moment road trips and could often be found yelling at/cheering for his Gamecocks. More than anything, he loved being with his Cindy. He will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know him.
Roger is survived by his wife, Cindy Gail Wolfe Powell; children, Bryan Powell, Jr. and his wife, Ashtan, Bradley Powell and his wife, Olivia and Brittany Powell Etherington and her husband, Adam; her grandchildren, Palmer, Tripp, Braden, Emiliana and Sophia; brother, W. Hallie Powell and his wife, Patricia, as well as special nephews and nieces that he grew up with that he considered siblings, especially Ricky, Wayne and Anita. He loved his family so much. He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard C. Powell and Gertrude Medlin Powell; his siblings, Mary L. Whisenant (Olin), Charles Travis Powell (Marlene), Linda S. Powell, Howard C. Powell (Ellen), Katherine Powell and Deborah Pender.
Arrangements by CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406.
