

Mr. Billy Lee Maxwell, Sr., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 6, 2020. He was born in Macon, GA, on February 27, 1934, to JC and Ruth Maxwell. He married the love of his life, Miss Virginia Merritt, on December 24, 1953. They were married 59 years.
Mr. Maxwell joined the US Navy in 1951 and proudly served 23 years before retiring in September 1974. He often said he would reenlist if allowed, even into his 80s. He then worked for US Civil Service at the Naval Supply Center, Charleston, retiring in 1990.
Billy is survived by daughers Sharon Spicker (Willi) of Post Falls, ID; Janice Ormsby (George) of Bushnell, FL; and Marilyn Pye (Otis) of Cottageville, SC. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Amanda Van Vleet (Joshua), Patrick Spicker, Clarissa Bliemeister (Scott), Georgia Holloway (Branden), Otis Pye II (Brittany), Rachel Largesse (Matthew), Lauren Maxwell and Richard Lyles; and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Jerry Maxwell (Shirley) of Macon, GA, and his two best friends: Elizabeth Bode of Macon, GA, and Wanda Barron of Summerville, SC.
He was predeceased by his wife; his son, Billy Maxwell, Jr.; his grandson, Billy Maxwell III; his parents; his sisters, Simone Lowrimore and Shirley Hollis.
Billy loved the Lord, his country and family above all else. He enjoyed traveling the United States, first with his family, and later in life on tour buses. He was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves and Falcons. He spent his last years of his life in Cottageville, SC, with his daughter, Marilyn, and her husband, Otis. He enjoyed his time on their front porch watching birds and airplanes.
The funeral and burial will be held on Thursday, September 10, at 2:00 p.m. at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston. A visitation will precede the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
