Known as “Chuck”, passed at almost 92 years old (he was going for 105! to beat everyone else on his side of the family). Chuck was a warm sweet soul who helped countless people (including strangers) along the way throughout his entire life. Many will say he never realized or acted his age – very much like his brother-in-law Thomas Smith. Always will be remembered as a teenager at heart. Chuck served in the Air Force as a flight engineer and is a Vietnam Veteran, retiring as a Master Sargent after 27 years of serving. Born in Detroit Michigan, transferred to Savannah, GA, New York, eventually settling down in Charleston, South Carolina with the Air Force. Chuck has a daughter (Sherry) and a son (Richard) with his wife at the time Gail Smith LeBrun
Chuck’s passion from a young age was cars, then Corvettes and racing them. Since 1964, bit by the Corvette bug, has not spent a day in his life from that time without owning a corvette, even today. Long time and original member of Corvette Charleston, racing his Vettes became the next step. His last Corvette of his legacy is a 2009 V6 Black Convertible. Chuck’s other passion was playing pool. Even on his 90th birthday, he held his own with HIS pool stick against former teammates. Many will also remember Chuck as the chihuahua whisperer (especially “Killer”).
He is survived by his children Sherry and Rick and four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and beloved “Killer”.
Memorial services held at Carolina Memorial Gardens & Funeral home, December 18, 2023. Visitation 1:30 pm, Memorial Service 2:30 pm. He will be remembered with Military Honors graveside. If you own a Vette – bring it! If you have an old pic you can share, please bring it. The family and Chuck would appreciate it.
