It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Christopher Bailey, age 71, of Hanahan, SC, on January 2, 2025. Christopher was born on May 29, 1953, in Dover, NJ, to Jack Lenord Bailey and Carmela Bonomo Bailey.
Christopher leaves behind his beloved wife of 46 years, Maria Hurtada Bailey, and their daughter, Melisa Steinert (Jake). He was a proud and loving grandfather to his grandchildren: Carmela, Emmett, Jaxson, and Kai. He is also survived by his brother, John Bailey (Karen); two nephews, Sean Bailey, and Christian Bailey; and niece, Heather Bailey.
Christopher was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Lenord Bailey and Carmela Bonomo Bailey.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Christopher retired as a Chief Petty Officer after proudly serving his country. Later, he enjoyed a fulfilling career as a history teacher, teaching middle and high school students in the Berkeley County School District, where he touched many lives before retiring.
Christopher's family was his greatest joy, and he cherished the time spent with his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing in his leisure time as well as watching football and always cheered for the New York Giants. In his younger years, Christopher played the accordion, a skill that brought him much joy. He loved to travel, and enjoyed trips to casinos, where taking a chance was always a highlight and fun occasion. Christopher enjoyed music, like many, and favored the genre of rock & roll. He was also a collector of art, and thoroughly enjoyed sharing this hobby with his daughter, Melisa. Of course, not only did he teach about history, but he was always expanding his knowledge on the vast subject and could often be found reading on various topics of interest and our great nation’s history. Christopher was also a devoted parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, where he found comfort in attending Mass and nurturing his faith. His commitment to his church and his belief in the power of family, love, and community were central to his life.
Christopher will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
