James "Jimmy" Leandrew Owen Jr.

James is survived by his loving wife Clara Sue M. Owen; his sons James L. Owen III (Kim) and Jonathan R. Owen; his grandchildren James L. Owen IV, Andrew M. Owen, Luke W. Owen, Ace L. Owen, and Austen E. Owen; his siblings Bonnie Tollison (Jerry), Victoria Matheny (John), Debbie Okes (Vic), and Wendy Cordina (David); his aunt Joan Owen; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.

James is preceded in death by his parents James L. Owen Sr. and Faye B. Owen.

James was raised in the low country and graduated from North Charleston High School in 1967. He enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserves and was stationed in Biloxi, MS in 1968. After his dedication and service to country, he enrolled in Trident Technical College and earned an associates degree in Civil Engineering. He then earned his license and started a career in Land Surveying/Residential Building and was the business owner of Benchmark Surveying & Construction now known as Benchmark Construction of Charleston LLC. James was an outdoorsman who loved building things and working with his hands. He enjoyed gardening and being in his yard, fishing, and hunting. James will be dearly missed and forever loved by his family.

A visitation will be held for James at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home on Friday April 7, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with a chapel service at 12:00 P.M. burial will follow immediately after at Carolina Memorial Park. 7113 Rivers Ave, North Charleston, SC 29406.
