

He joined the United States Marine Corp and served in the Korean War and WWII. He was employed by SCE&G for 36 years before retiring. John was a member of the IBEW for 70 years. John was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in North Charleston, SC, where he also was a part of the choir. He loved his community and was dedicated to keeping it beautiful and always lending a helping hand in any way.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Jacquelyn Harding Dawsey of Hanahan. Children: Kim David Dawsey (Kimberly) of North Charleston, Helen Dawsey Dixon (David) of Cross, Karen Dawsey Olinger of St. George, and Rebecca Dawsey Hill (Tal) of Lebanon. Grandchildren: David Dixon Jr. (Tracy), Lori Eadie (Everett), Jamie Dawsey, Megan Ballentine (Phillip), Dennis "DJ" Hill (Kristy), Tal "Bubba" Hill (Kristina), Jake Dawsey, Rory Goode, Will Perry (Rachel), Bryce Kinlaw; 20 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great- grandchildren. Sisters: Laurel Shifflet of North Charleston and Amurelise Elsie of West Ashley as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by, his mother and father; brother, Reggie Dawsey; sisters, Gloria McCracken and Jackie Neutroth; grandchildren, Joellee Dawsey, Joshua Dawsey and Jessie Dawsey; and great-granddaughter, Zoe Mae Dawsey.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday April 11, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Carolina Memorial Funerals & Cremation, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406.
The Celebration of Life will follow from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm in the Chapel.
The Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers: Wounded Warriors and Roper Hospice in Ladson.
