

Roger grew up in Chicora place and attended Chicora Elementary, Carlisle Military Academy in Bamberg, S.C., and graduated from Chicora High
school in the class of 1964
After high school he went to work in the Charleston Naval Shipyard and started his career in the Boiler Shop #41 for 25 years, from there he moved on to the Engineering shop code #365 for the last five years before the Shipyard closed. Roger also served in the S.C. National Guard for 6 years.
After his Federal employment, he spent many years nurturing and caring for his aging parents who lived across the street from him on Shrewsbury Road West Ashley. He wasa long time member of Charleston Elks Lodge #242, The Charleston Shag Club, and a current member and loyal supporter of the Beach Music and Shag Preservation Society in West Ashley. Roger loved to shag and he loved Beach Music. His favorite music was Elvis Presley Gospels. He would sit and listen to Elvis praise the Lord for many hours. He was an active member of the Ashley River Baptist Church on Savannah Highway. Roger loved the Lord. If Roger Lain (or Julio his friends called him) was ever your friend, you had a loyal friend for life. He loved life and he loved his family and friends. Roger touched many lives and will be truly missed by many long term good friends.
Roger was also an avid collector of Jim Booth Art!
Roger married a beautiful Christian lady from Bowman, S.C. Nancy Stroman. Recently the two of them moved their residence to Bowman, S.C. and resided there the last 2 years.
Roger was preceeded in death by his Mother, Daisy McMillan Lain, (Mamma Daisy), his father Julio Rodriguez (JR) Lain Sr.,and his sister Elaine Lain Tarleton
from Rock Hill. Surviving are his wife Nancy Stroman Lain, Roger's son Greg Lain, stepson Jason Stroman, two sisters, Stephanie Dianne Lain Schoenhoff of Fayetteville, Georgia, and Sheila Joye
Lain, from Ladson, S.C. and many nieces and nephews. For many years Roger Lain was a true spokesman for persons with Disibilities, and a huge supporter of the Coastal Center in Ladson, due to his sister Joye being a long time resident there.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 2, 2018, 2 pm at the Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, followed by the Life Well Celebrated Service at the Carolina Memorial Chapel, concluded with entombment in the Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum, all located at 7113 Rivers Ave. North Charleston.
