Survived by his wife of 61 years, Marlene McCarthy Hanjes. Ken was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Donnie, Dicky, and Harry. Living siblings, sisters, Sharon Thompson (Charles) of Oregon, and Jenny Svko, brother, Mark (Mary) of California. Kenneth and Marlene have four daughters; Fonda Goodwin (Ken), Theresa Price (Bill), Kathy Rodgers (Roger), and Jeana Blackwood (Jeri). Seven grandchildren, Troy, Tony (Stephanie), Kenny (Roxanne), Brandon, Michelle (Duane), Amanda (Erik), and Michael (April) and seven great-grandchildren.
Ken served in the United States Air Force as an airplane mechanic for 13 years. His service was during the Vietnam War. After leaving the USAF Ken was the manager of the Sandbar Restaurant on Folly Beach before he started his own business, Marine Construction Company Inc., and then partnered with is brother-in-law, Michael (Bubba) McCarthy, Jr., before retiring in 2012.
Before his illness caused Ken to be at home, he was part of the James Island Christian Community Church along with his wife.
For many years Ken loved building and flying model airplanes, and traveling to air shows with his wife, making many friends along the way. Gardening was another enjoyment of his. But, his passion and love was for Jesus Christ his Lord. He accepted the Lord at a Billy Graham Crusade as a young man and traveled to the Holy Land.
Services will be held Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Time with the family will also be on July 28, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The service will follow, and the burial immediately after the service in Carolina Memorial Park Cemetery.
