

Mary Evelyn “Pete” Currie, 89, died at home in North Charleston on August 19th at 3:35pm. Mary was born in Hampton, SC on January 1st, 1935. Mary is survived by her son Mitchell and wife Kathy, son Troy and wife Caryn, grandchildren Kaylin Centanni and husband Sam and grandson William Currie and great grandchildren Scarlett Centanni and Sammy Centanni. Mary is predeceased by her son, William “Todd” Currie, mother Addie Jarrell Gray and father Wyman B. Gray along with brothers Wyman Bo Gray and Gene Gray, sisters Bernice Altman, Virginia “Punk” Roberts and Miriam Roberts.
Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loyal friend to those that knew her. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She became a truck driver of a “Big Rig” even though family members felt it would be too dangerous. She was very proud of her accomplishments as a cross-country truck driver with many stories that interested all who heard them. She also spent many years working at the Charleston Passport Center. She took ownership of any job she performed and took pride in all of them. She will be truly missed by family and her many friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Carolina Funeral Home & Gardens. The funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow.
