The bench sits empty,
as if it remembers the weight of waiting,
and the small bird nearby
feels like a witness to something sacred and painful.

Because there are moments
that never really leave you—
they stay etched in time,
unchanged, unsoftened.

You were there.
I was there.

And all the love in the world
couldn’t stop what was happening.

There’s a helplessness in that
that words never quite capture—
watching someone you love
fade beyond your reach,
while you stay,
holding on to what little you can.

They say peace came for you,
that your pain was lifted,
that you’re no longer suffering.

And I hold onto that…
I really do.

But it doesn’t change the truth
that something in me
broke in that moment too.

Not gone—
just forever different.

Because loving you
meant carrying both things at once:
gratitude that you’re free…
and heartbreak that you’re not here.
