The relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Carolina Memorial Park, Funerals & Cremation located at 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. 843-797-2222. The visitation will be held prior to the funeral service from 2:00 pm until 3:00pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
Mr. Ballard was born June 17, 1928 in Middlesboro, KY, the son of the late Padgett R Ballard, Sr. and the late Beulah Lewis Ballard.
Mr. Ballard was retired from the United States Navy after serving 20 years. He served during WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam. He also retired after 24 years of service at the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a supervisor for shop 72. Mr. Ballard was the president of Ballard & Sons of Charleston, Inc. for many years and retired. During his time at Ballard & Sons, the company was honored Outstanding Company for the state of South Carolina and was recognized nationally by the media. He then started a company with CTX and he and his wife traveled all parts of the country enjoying their time together.
Survivors include 3 sons, Robert Luke Ballard of Goose Creek, Jeff Mike Ballard (Diane) of Summerville and Larry Garner Ballard of North Charleston; 1 daughter, Beth Ballard Ellis (Tony) of North Charleston; grandchildren, Jeff Mike Ballard II, Sara Brittany Ellis, Lucas Ballard, Larry Matthew Ballard (Elizabeth), Holly Diane Ballard Bartlett (John), Jordan Alexandria Ballard, Glenn Randall Lane and Mark Garner Ballard; many great grandchildren; 1 sister, Lorraine Hughes of Phoenix, AZ; 1 niece, Liesa Vandever (David) of Phoenix, AZ; 1 nephew, Wes Hughes (Linda) of Carey, NC.
Mr. Ballard was preceded in death by the dream of his life, wife, Irene; his wonderful parents; 2 darling daughters, Vicki Ballard Lane and Wanda Gail Ballard and 1 son, James Patterson Ballard (Sandra).
