Thelma Arlene Adams, age 89, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026. Born on June 15, 1936, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, she was the beloved daughter of the late Gerald and Leola Langton.
Thelma was a devoted Navy wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and proud great-grandmother. She dedicated many years of service as a product safety inspector before retiring from North Safety Products. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—playing cards with family, enjoying Bingo with friends, and baking her famous homemade pound cake. Above all, Thelma adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, showering them with love, thoughtful gifts, and sweet treats. Her family was the center of her world.
She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Hayes (Ronald Hayes) of Ridgeville, SC, and Julie Cleveland (Gary Cleveland) of Bristol, VA; her grandchildren: Michael Westmoreland, Lindsey Hallock, Kimberly Hayes, Loren Poplin, Mark Nix, Ryan Hayes, Jennifer Hayes, Timothy Poplin, and Hayden Townsend; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister, Eula Berndt, along with many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Adams, and her daughter, Pamela Townsend. She is also lovingly remembered by her son-in-law, Terry Townsend.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to niece, Debbie, for her devoted companionship and love to Thelma. Special thanks are also given to Harmony Retirement Home for the compassionate care provided to both Richard and Thelma, and to Agape Hospice House for their extraordinary kindness, support, and angels on Earth.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 714 Riverdale Drive, Charleston, SC 29407.
The family welcomes condolences and shared memories in the comments online at www.carolinamemorial.com. Flowers can be sent directly to the church for the service.
