

Wilma was born February 2, 1933 in Goppingen, Germany. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rosa Hafner.
She met and married Billy G. Carter in 1950. Because Billy was in the Army, he and Wilma lived in many cities before settling in Charleston SC. Wilma was the mother to 3 girls – all born in Germany. She was also a loving grandmother to 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Wilma worked at Belk in the shoe department at Northwoods Mall for 25 years. Wilma loved her work and made many friends selling shoes. She was a member of Northwood Baptist Church and sang in the choir for many years. Wilma loved her bowling team and she volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
Wilma loved dogs and had 5 dogs over her lifetime that she loved and cared for. She also loved shopping and going for walks.
Wilma is survived by her daughters: Tina Beckman of Summerville, SC, Debra Drennon of Goose Creek, SC and Linda Grooms of North Charleston, SC. Her grandchildren: Bradley Beckman, Alexandra Beckman, Kellie Malcolm, Jessica Bowers, Matthew Grooms and Stacy Cook. Also, her 8 great grandchildren.
Wilma is preceded in transition by her husband, Billy G. Carter; 3 sisters and 1 brother all from Germany.
Wilma will be missed by her family and friends.
A Visitation will be held Saturday June 17, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Carolina Memorial Funerals & Cremation, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. A Celebration of Life will follow in the Carolina Memorial Chapel from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The Burial will follow at 3:00 pm at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
