Zelda Was born July 26, 1932 in Pickens, SC. She was the daughter of the late Theo Wyatt Pace and Nancy Elizabeth Lesley Pace. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of over 65 years, Thomas Carter Moore, her sister Lila Mae Bartlett, and brothers, Theron and Kenneth Pace.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Nancy Moore Huggins, son-in-law, Jody S. Huggins, and the apples of her eyes, grandsons, Tanner Colt Huggins and Jesse Samuel Huggins (Katherine Boston) all of Hanahan, SC, two sister-in-laws, Pat Pace of MS. and Ann Burt of North Charleston, 9 nieces, 8 nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Besides the Lord, family was always the most important thing in her life. She and Tom loved cooking and hosting holidays, celebrations, and special occasions and their home was always the family gathering place, and later in their retirement years, at their lake home in Bonneau. She was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church and former member of First Baptist Church of Bonneau and Friendship Baptist Church.
She was a graduate of North Charleston High School and participated in the Eastern Star at the North Charleston Hamilton Masonic Lodge #332, 1085 E. Montague Ave., North Charleston, SC. She worked in the private sector for the better part of career life and a short time in the Charleston County Sheriff's Office before retiring from the Army Corp of Engineers when her and Tom moved to the Lake full time where they met and made many new wonderful neighbors and friends. They truly enjoyed retirement life.
Outings on the lake, group dinner events and many bus tour travel trips for several years. They were both avid golfers and received multiple awards in various tournaments over the years. The greatest joy of all was being able to watch and help raise both their grandsons from the time they were born until they started school. They loved being granny and Papa and spoiling their boys more than anything. After the loss of Tom, she took part in various ladies group events at Highland Park helping make crafts for Operation Christmas Child and crocheting caps for the Seamen's Center. Although she was only there for a very short time, she met and made her last lady friends on this earth at The Bridge in North Charleston where they would meet at the same table every day for lunch and dinner. Many will say her most amazing accomplishments was beating cancer twice. Breast cancer first in 2000 and lung cancer in 2009. She always gave credit to her Lord and savior for bringing her through those times and giving her additional years with her family, friends and being able to watch her "boys" grow into young men.
The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice of North Charleston for their assistance with her healthcare over the past year, multiple chaplains, nurses, medical supply techs, and two that was with her from the beginning, Social Worker Robin and especially her aid "Ms." Barbara who came several times a week. Her beautician Janice, who continued to do her hair even after she went to The Bridge, friend Rosie, who would also come and do her manicures and pedicures and last but certainly not least, so many beloved members of Highland Park who sent cards, visited and brought beautiful flower arrangements and sweet treats, she really enjoyed their visits and they would always make her day.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Blue Ridge View Baptist Church, 745 Wolf Creek Rd., Pickens, SC 29671.
