Joyce,  

I finally found the strength to watch your funeral service.  What a beautiful service and wonderful tribute to you and your life.  
I have never had a friend like you, Joyce, and I know I never will again.  You were my first true adult friend and so much more than that.  You have been part of my family, and your love and friendship will last my lifetime.  I had never had someone who cared about me like you have.  You made me a part of your life and you never judged me.

I have never had a friend like you.  We were instant friends when we met in 1967.  We visited almost every day.  In your apartment, of course, as you were always cooking, cleaning, washing clothes, and watching the children.  We had to talk louder when the washer was going, but we talked and shared everything about our lives. I can always picture you and remember your voice, your laugh, and your smile.  When I moved farther away, we also stayed close,  even though neither one of us drove a car.  We walked miles to each other’s house to visit.  Never missed our visits.

My beautiful friend with so much love.  True strength, grace, and strong  faith. 

I think it was Tammy that first introduced us when we lived next door to each other on Aldrich Avenue. Tammy became instant friends with my children, Tina and Jo-Jo, but I felt so close to all of your children.  We planned and shared all of their birthdays.  There were so many children that most of the parties had to be held outside.    

I lived next door to you for about four years and they were  some of the best years of my life.  You and your family became family to me.  What a gift.  A lifetime gift of love and friendship.

Time and distance  never separated us.  You will always be a part of me and hold a truly special place in my heart.   I Love you and II will always miss you, my dearest friend.
