Teresa Dixon, beloved mother, grandmother, wife, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, at the age of 86, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and creativity.
Born in Santa Barbara, California, on May 10, 1939, Teresa grew up in Fresno, where she met the love of her early life, Walter Blackhall. They married in 1957 when Teresa was just 18, and together they raised four children: Lisa, Steven, Kerry Ann, and Michael, who heartbreakingly passed away when he was 2 years old from leukemia.
In the 1960s, Teresa and her family moved to the tiny mountain town of Fish Camp, nestled on the edge of Yosemite National Park. There, she became a central figure in the community, serving for many years as the town’s postmaster. A woman of boundless energy and generosity, Teresa also taught skiing at the nearby resort, instilling in her children a lifelong love of the slopes and a fearless spirit.
A devoted and nurturing mother, Teresa was endlessly resourceful. She hand-sewed all her
children’s clothing and made sure they had everything they needed—not just for comfort, but for inspiration. She introduced them to the world’s wonders, encouraging their dreams and helping them discover their passions.
Later in life, Teresa married Tony Dixon on October 31, 1979, in a picturesque ceremony at the Yosemite Valley Chapel. Together, they explored the world, including a few trips to Japan, where Teresa studied the art of quilting. Her intricate, handcrafted quilts were a reflection of her warmth, patience, and artistry.
Teresa’s life was rich in love, adventure, and quiet determination. She is remembered for her vibrant creativity, fierce devotion to her family, and her ability to find beauty in the everyday.
She is survived by her children Lisa, Steven, and Kerry Ann, and her grandchildren Kelly, Katy, Thomas, Hayley, and Jacob. She also leaves behind many friends and loved ones whose lives she touched with her kindness and spirit.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Saint Francis de
Sales in Sherman Oaks, followed by a reception at Lisa’s home in Studio City. All who knew
and loved her are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Teresa’s legacy by doing something creative, adventurous, or kind—just as she always did.
