Dotty was born on July 20, 1922 in Slatington, PA. Her parents were Harry and Ethel Orkin. She had 3 sisters, Ruth, Naomi and Renee. She had 1 brother David. Harry was from Riga Latvia and Ethel was born in New York City.
Dotty graduated from Slatington High School and went to Penn State University for a short time.
She went to Washington DC to work as a government employee for the Treasury Department where she met her husband Melvin.
Melvin and Dotty were married for 73 years until Melvin’s death in Feb 2020. They had 2 children.
Dotty was a homemaker who loved to cook. She also loved to sing, paint and play Bridge and Mah Jongg.
She is survived by her two children, daughter Lori Kaplan and spouse Sandy Botkin, and son Steve and spouse Robbie Kaplan. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jeremy and spouse Jessica, Matthew and spouse Dani, and Allison and her spouse Jon.
There are four surviving great grandchildren, Mason, Ryan, Alex and Julie.
Funeral services will be held at the Star of David Memorial Chapel, located at 7701 Bailey Road, North Lauderdale, FL 33068, on January 19, 2025. The Funeral Service will commence at 11:45 am, followed by the Committal Service at 12:15 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a charity close to your heart, in honor of Dorothy's generous spirit and her lifelong dedication to helping others.
