Dearest Weissbergers,

As you may know, I first met Eva at the pool at The Palms. She was sitting on a lounge in the far-left corner, reading. I learned later that reading by the pool or on the beach was typical of her. Although it was almost 13 years ago, I can see her, as if she were in front of me today, with her wide brim hat, thick long blond hair (I marveled at how she could tolerate all that hair in the heat, but she said it didn’t bother her) wearing oversized designer sunglasses and looking so chic. Typical of how friendly she was, she introduced herself.  I told her that Jeff and I were trying to decide between The Palms and St. Andrews. Eva had a good friend at St. Andrews, and she described its cultural aspects compared to The Palms. Niki should have given her a portion of her commission because it was Eva’s description that was the decisive factor that drove our selection of The Palms --- without a single regret after 13 years.

Our happiness at The Palms had a great deal to do with Eva & Ron. They were our “go to” couple when we wanted to go out to dinner. We became very close. Eva took me under her wing, introduced me to all her friends, many of whom became mine. She helped to teach me Mahjong, which I grew to hate, and canasta, which I love. She made us part of your family, including us for the High Holidays and Passover. We got to know you –Debi, Mark, Max, Jonah, Olivia and most recently Jacob. Although we didn’t spend much time with you, your mother/grandmother kept us apprised of everything that was going on in your lives.

Ron, you were totally amazing. Whenever I spoke with Eva, she would marvel at how wonderful you were and how well you took care of her. She was concerned that you were, in effect, giving up your life up for her.

My sincere condolences to the Weissberger family on the passing of Eva. I taught with Eva at Century Public School in Ottawa and I have happy memories of chatting with Eva in the French office. Eva often spoke fondly of her family and she  was so proud of her children.
May your memories of Eva help you at this time of sadness.

Mark and Michael were  together at Hillel. and  each time he was at your home for a sleep over, he would come back raving about how wonderful it was to be their.   Her warmth and smile radiated. I am heartbroken. I met Eva in 1979 when we were both members of Na'Amat  in Ottawa and we were both pregnant. We have lost a highly intelligent, fun and giving lady. She was genuine and always easy to talk to.  We are thinking of you - Ronald, Debi, Mark and family.

I’m heartbroken to hear about Eva. She meant so much to me and my family, growing up in Montreal and Ottawa. So many of my earliest childhood memories involve Eva. She was glamorous.  She carried herself with beauty. And yet she was so down to earth and relatable. I’m grateful that I got to see her in person in New York, one year ago this week. We had a lovely dinner and walked through Manhattan with Ron.  She was so proud of her children and she loved her grandkids. Eva was a special woman. And we will miss her forever.
