Born October 27th, 1931, Herminia aka "Minnie", was born in San Antonio, Texas to parents Manuela Esquivel and Melecio Guevara. She was the 2nd youngest of 7 children. Her parents moved the family to Bustamante, Mexico where she spent her formative years. Minnie experienced many, many losses throughout her life. The 1st of which was the passing of her mother from Cancer when she was only 4 years old. She often spoke about those last moments being held by her mother. It left an indelible mark on her heart.
Abandoned soon after, by their father, Minnie & her siblings were forced to raise themselves. They lived in a small dwelling in Mexico surviving on beans and tortillas. In her 20's after relocating back to Texas, at the age of 24 she contracted Tuberculosis and was bedridden for 2 years in the hospital. Luckily, she would overcome the illness at 26. She later worked as a seamstress and then met and fell head over heels in love with Robert Lemmons. They married soon after and started a family with 4 healthy children. Minnie & Bob relocated the family to South Florida in 1968. They raised their 4 children and were very happy until she was widowed at the age of 46. She never stopped talking about his incredible green eyes and curly hair. Minnie proudly raised her 4 children ages 8-13 by herself for several years. She started cleaning houses and even briefly to worked in a photography studio. She had fond memories of her time retouching negatives and working in that environment.
Years later she would find love again with ex-boxer Hector Alagastino. They married and purchased a home in Deerfield Beach. She became a Christian and joined La Nueva Jerusalem Church in Pompano Beach where she worshipped for 30+ years. She found immense love and cultivated lifelong friendships. She lived with Hector for many years until his passing from Esophageal Cancer leaving her widowed for the 2nd time. She lived in that home for a total of 44 years until Alzheimer's started robbing her memory to the point that she no longer knew where she lived. Despite life's challenges she remained a beacon of strength and LOVE, never losing her faith or her sense of humor. Sweet, silly, capable and strong, she will be so missed by all who knew her. Minnie passed with her children by her side.
She is survived by her 4 children Rebecca Hoth, Robert Lemmons, Richard Lemmons, and Ruby Lemmons Slavic, she has 3 grandchildren, Robert Lemmons, Joshua Hoth and Xander Lemmons and 1 great grandchild, Delilah Lemmons and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends .
