She attended Braes River primary school in Saint Elizabeth. As a young woman, she moved to Kingston where she met her future husband, Geraine Bernard. They lived in Kingston until she migrated to the United States in 1967. Shortly after migrating to the States, she brought her family to the U.S.
Linda worked in the healthcare industry for several years as a caregiver and dietary assistant. After working in New York for many years, she retired and relocated to Port Charlotte, Florida, where she enjoyed her retirement. While in retirement, Linda enjoyed gardening, sewing, and had the opportunity of caring for her grandchildren who lived nearby.
As she grew older, she moved to Tamarac, Florida so that she could be closer to her daughters and other family members. She made several friends in her new home and enjoyed having family and friends around her. She took great pleasure in telling Jamaican folklore to her children, grandchildren, friends and anyone willing to listen. Linda always reminisced about her childhood adventures in Jamaica and brought laughter to many. She was witty and always had a parable to share. Two of her favorite pastimes were watching “Day of Our Lives” and religious programs on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN).
In late December, 2015, she suffered several health related issues and was hospitalized. Quietly, on Tuesday morning, February 9, 2016, she was called home by the Lord. She was 91 years old. She is survived by her 5 children, Leonie, Angela, Owen, Derrick and Vinette, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind 2 brothers, Gerald and Oliver, as well as many great nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind several very special friends, Annette, Jean and Shirley, who were always there for her. She will be missed and may her soul rest in eternal peace, as she is now in the Lord’s care.
