Phillip Edward Hales was born on March 1, 1944 in Syracuse, N.Y. to Henry Leonard and Anita Hales. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for four years.
He finally settled in South Florida and eventually became a computer programmer. Phil was a lifetime member of MENSA, the high IQ society, and actively participated as Local Secretary of the Broward County Chapter for several years. He made many friends and found two lovely wives in the group.
Phil’s passions in life were music, guitar playing, singing and telling jokes. In recent years he discovered painting Kindness Rocks, which he delicately created and placed around Coral Springs and Parkland, Florida. He loved making people happy!
He is survived by Barbara Rose Hales, his wife of almost 22 years; daughters Jean Marie Burke of Florida, Tika Marie Hales of Houston, Texas and Katherine Mary Anita Hiers, of Waltersboro, South Carolina. There are eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren who will continue to carry his lineage.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Phil’s favorite charity, The American Red Cross, at RedCross.org on their website.
