Shirley Goodman

Shirley Strom Goodman, 101 years old, of Acworth Georgia, passed away in her sleep on April 6, 2025. Shirley was a long-time resident of Pembroke Pines, FL, only recently moving to Acworth to live with her son and daughter in-law. Shirley also lived in Bellmore, NY for most of her adult life.

Shirley was born on September 22, 1923, to Joseph and Adele Strom in Busk, Poland. Shirley and her siblings, Bernard, Abraham, and Ester left their home in Sasow, Poland and immigrated to the United States aboard the SS Kosciuszko, sailing from the port of Gdynia, Poland on March 4, 1932. The family settled in Brooklyn, NY.

After Shirley graduated from high school she took an administrative position in Washington, DC supporting the war effort. She was a fervent supporter of the United States.

Shirley had several administrative jobs in the private sector, with Corning Glass and Creative Mailing, before settling into long term employment with the state of New York.

In 1953 Shirley met and married Milton, a neighbor of Abraham, in North Bellmore, NY. Shirley and Milton went on to have one son, Harry. They were married for 53 years until his death in 2006.

Shirley enjoyed gardening in her back yard growing vegetables. Shirley and Milton were enthusiastic travelers with multiple trips to Europe, Israel, and the Western United States.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband, parents, and siblings. She is survived by her son Harry (Amelia), grandsons Jesse (Felicia) and Joseph (Sophia), great grandsons Ezra and Silas (Jesse and Felicia), stepdaughter Hariett Grayson (Arthur) and granddaughters Stacey Lefever (Michael) and Rebecca Ocque (Jacob), and great granddaughters Isabelle and Evelyn (Rebecca and Jacob).

Services will be held at Star of David, 7701 Bailey Road, North Lauderdale, FL gravesite on 4/10/2025 at 1:30 PM.
