Sidney Lazarus of Prospect, Kentucky passed away peacefully on May 9, 2019. Sid was born to Harry and Lilly Lazarus August 5, 1923 in Cliffside Park, New Jersey. During World War II, through the Engineering War Training Program he became involved with the Manhattan Project, helping to develop metal alloys used in the production of the first atomic bomb. He was married to Claire Hoffman in 1956. They moved to Eastchester, New York where they ran Huntley Stationery. The widely known store was frequented by locals who enjoyed chatting with Sid and Claire, both known for their excellent sense of humor and spontaneous wit. Sid was very generous, donating money and merchandise to various charities. After retiring, he volunteered his time working with Bnai Brith Youth. He was also an outstanding artist, a hobby he pursued later in life. Family was very important to him. When his wife Claire was ill, he stood tirelessly by her side until the end. He will be missed dearly. He is survived by his son Howard; his daughter-in-law Ora; and his grandchildren, Lauren, Jake, and Gillian. Funeral services will be held at Star of David Funeral Chapel on Sunday May 12, 2019 at 12 PM.
