He was a Korean War Veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corp. He left the service as a Sergeant, after a Korean Service Medal and a letter of Commendation.
Ed was a lifelong golfer. He started as a caddy at the Little Rock Country Club and got his first clubs at the age of 25. He practiced every day after work. That commitment led him to be one of Arkansas’s best golfers. He won multiple tournaments, won the Arkansas State Amateur Champion three times. He was inducted into both the Arkansas Golfers’ Hall of Fame and the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame. In his senior years, he worked at Burns Park Golf Course, which he considered to be his home course.
He retired from Union Pacific Railroad, formerly Missouri Pacific, as a diesel electrician. He was also active with the railroad union.
He loved the Lord and most recently attended That Church in Sherwood. When he could no longer attend in person, he watched church services on TV and listened to the Bible on tape.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Wilburn and Lula Haggard Harris; sisters, Auda (Melvin) Martindale, Gaynelle (Lloyd) Gray, and Fayrene Harris; brothers, Ralph, Robert, Lester (Belle), Leo (Mary), Cleo (Irma), Willie (Bill), Junior (Louise) Harris.
