Jesse Columbus James, 84, of Scott, Arkansas, passed away December 7, 2017. He was born September 4, 1933, in Scott, to Ellis M. and Zella James. He was preceded in death by his parents, his former wives, Virginia B. James and Katie V. James, a daughter, Cynthia A. Arnold, two grandchildren, Michael Hartwick and Kirk McAfee, and one great-grandchild, Ella Busse. Jesse was a senior deacon at Grace Baptist Church in Scott. He retired as a SMSgt. with the US Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He later retired from the US Postal Service after 20 years. Jesse was dedicated to his church and family. He is survived by his wife, Frances James; eight children, Anthony James, Randy Vanderford, Jesse James, Jr., Vaudie McAfee, Daniel Lewis, Todd Lewis, Jonathan Lewis and Michael Lewis; 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ellis James, Jr. Visitation will be Thursday, December 14, at 9:00 a.m. with services at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 408 North Walker Corner in Scott. Pastor Brad Vaden and Rev. Dale Prater will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery in North Little Rock.
