July 23, 1932 – October 15, 2023
Harriet, daughter of Herbert H. and Dorothy Robins passed peacefully in her family home of 66 years on Sunday morning, October 15, 2023. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she earned a bachelor's degree in education and was an elementary school teacher prior to relocating to North Miami Beach, with her husband Arthur and oldest son Michael in 1956. As early pioneers in this new community, they added sons Steven and Jeffrey to their growing family. Harriet was a consummate volunteer and joined a local chapter of B’nai B’rith quickly moving into leadership at the chapter and regional level, becoming the President of the South Florida Region in the early-1980s and was elected President of B’nai B’rith Women in 1990 and served in that role for two years. During her time as President of the organization she led BBW through a critical stage in its history and as a result of her efforts B’nai B’rith Women became an international organization and is thriving today. Harriet helped to establish safe houses for battered women, spoke passionately on women’s rights; empowering women and working to break the cycle of violence against women in the world including presenting to the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations in support of the United States signing the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women. She was a staunch supporter of the Children’s Home in Jerusalem, Israel where she helped to insure that orphaned Jewish children had the opportunity to live their best possible lives. Harriet’s impact reached millions across the world. She and her husband Arthur operated Globe Travel in North Miami Beach from 1971 for over 50 years. She and Arthur traveled the world and engaged in many philanthropic endeavors. Harriet lived a full and complete life and she and Arthur instilled their values of philanthropy and volunteerism into their children and grandchildren and through them her legacy lives.
She is survived by her husband of over 71 years, Arthur; children Michael and his wife Devorah Chana, Steven and his wife Lisa, Jeffrey and his wife Ilyse; Grandchildren Joshua and his wife Maria, Benjamin and his wife Mari, Samuel and his wife Sara Jane, Nicole, Anna and her husband Mark, Kevin, Brian, and Austin; Great grandchildren Senta Lee, Merci Barret, Kyler, Genesee, Yehudah Leib, Jessee, and Chloe.
The family requests that donations be made in her memory to Jewish Women International (f/k/a B’nai Brith Women) which is undertaking critical efforts to protect and rescue the youth in the Childrens’ Home in Jerusalem and throughout Israel and continues to work for women’s rights across the globe. Psalm 23
The Lord is my Shepherd;
I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down
in green pastures;
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul;
He leadeth me in the paths of
righteousness for His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the
valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me;
Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me;
Thou preparest a table before me in
the presence of mine enemies;
Thou anointest my head with oil,
my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall
follow me all the days of my life;
and I will dwell in the house of the
Lord forever.
