He was certainly a welcome gift to his mother, as they shared the same birthday, Interestingly, this March 18th birthday would also be shared with his loving wife of over 45 years, Carole. The family, including brother, Barry A. Silverstein, moved to Miami Beach in in 1945, where Howard attended Miami Beach Junior High School and Miami Beach Senior High School, graduating in 1950. He continued to play baseball at the University of Florida for one year and then played for a semi-professional, traveling team. His love of sports continued throughout his life, and he was an avid Miami Dolphins fan, attending games and cheering on his team for many years. Howard served his military obligation as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, until honorably discharged.
