It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Shirley Mendelson, on Friday, February 7, 2025. Born on June 20, 1936, in Jacksonville, Florida, to her loving parents Morris and Elizabeth (Mimi) Tarlyn, who preceded her in death. Shirley was also predeceased by her cherished husband, Norman Mendelson.
Shirley’s memory will forever live on through her sister, Ellie Zimmerman (husband Charles); her four children, Harvey (wife Barbara), Robin, Barry (wife Osher), and Gary (husband David); and her precious grandchildren, Rachel (wife Shayla), Richard, Sean, Steven, Or, Roei, and Ofir. Shirley is also survived by her beloved furry companions, Luna and Bitzy, who were by her side through many years of love and joy.
Shirley led a life dedicated to others. She was a devoted teacher’s aide. Above all, she was an exceptional wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Her kindness and compassion touched everyone she encountered.
A service to honor Shirley’s life will be held at Menorah Gardens in Southwest Ranches, Florida, at 12:30 PM on Monday, February 10, 2025. Following the service, the family will observe Shiva at the home of her daughter, Robin Mendelson, from Monday, February 10 - 16.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Camp Judea in Shirley’s name, honoring her lifelong love for children and community. (https://www.campjudaea.org/support/giving-opportunities/)
Shirley’s legacy will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a light in our lives, and her spirit will continue to inspire us every day.
