Born in Pittsburgh to Harold Emanuel Silverblatt (son of Jewish immigrants from Lithuania and Poland) and Rose Braemer (a Jewish immigrant from Russia), Stanley P. Silverblatt (Shmuel ben Emanuel) honored his family by excelling in his studies and by being a genuine “Mensch.” He attended boarding school at Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg, Pennsylvania and studied at Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey, bumping shoulders with Albert Einstein. He finally graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, interned at Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh, and completed a three year internal medicine residency at the Pittsburgh Medical Center, Presbyterian Hospital. Following his internal medicine training, he entered the United States Public Health Service and was a heart disease control officer for the state of Connecticut.
In 1963 he was reacquainted with a former crush, Maxine Goldman, who had two sons (Eddie & Nicky Rosenberg) from a previous marriage. Stanley and Maxine fell in love, and soon after their marriage they welcomed their daughter Heather into the world.
After ten years of medical practice in Pittsburgh, the family relocated to South Florida in 1973 and Stanley accepted a new and unfamiliar challenge as a resident physician with an office in the famous Diplomat Hotel, Hollywood, Florida. The next decade would bring interesting encounters with the rich, the famous and the infamous.
In 2008 the book HOTEL DOCTOR was published, a memoir of Dr. Silverblatt’s decade at the hotel. Most recently in 2016 he completed and published his newest memoir ANGEL IN THE TREE, which ecompasses his deep love for Maxine and his discovery of faith in his Creator (ANGEL IN THE TREE is available at Amazon.com).
Stanley was preceded in eternal rest by his beloved wife of 48 years, Maxine, in 2012. He is survived by his three children and their families, including four grandchildren and one great-grandchild who is expected to be born in the next week, along with many dear friends and former patients.
