She was born Wildonne Dorilas on August 23rd, 1931 at 4am in the city of Saut-d'Eau,Haiti“… Lequel nous a presente une enfant.. nee a Saut-d’Eau le vingt-trois Aout mil neuf cent trente et un a quatre heure du matin…”
Wildonne is preceded in death by her loving parents Nicholas Dorilas and Victoire Baltazard, and by her siblings. She survived Joseph Cordon, her long time husband and the father of her 5 children, who passed on January 31st, 2013. She is survived by her 5 adult children: Yves & spouse, Cassia; Marlie; Ron & spouse, Florence; Kathleen; and Regine & spouse, Josue Carisma. Her legacy also includes her four grandchildren (Coretta, Cassie, Nicholas, and Marcus), and her great-grandchild (Tyron).
Wildonne attended schools in Saut-d'Eau and Mirebalais and continued to LaSagesse. Afterward, she taught in a variety of schools, including being a Jostititice, at Republique de Paraguay, based on a letter received from Etat de lEducation Nationale
After her schooling, Wildonne met and married Joseph Cordon through what the family considered as divine intervention. Wildonne was traveling as a passenger in a Jeep that had a mechanical breakdown. As luck would have it, Joseph Cordon was the person to come to their rescue. They were both devout Catholics and courted for some time before getting married in Petion-Ville where the couple resided until they purchased a home in Bois Verna, in Port-Prince.
In 1967, Joseph Cordon, filled with ambition and aspiration, migrated to the United States to New York. In 1968, Wildonne and their 5 children followed suit. They lived in New York, then Massachusetts and lastly, in the summer of 1976, the Cordon family transitioned to Miami, Florida and settled here to this day.
Wildonne started her working life as a teacher in her beloved country of Haiti. In the US, as an immigrant, she juggled going back to school and did whatever job opportunity she could find to help support her family, until she could get better opportunities which included working in the Massachusetts Governor's Office. She retired after a 30year career with Miami-Dade county working as a bookkeeper at the Port of Miami. They were both loving and generous parents.
One of the many advantages of having a Mother like Wildonne Dorilas Cordon is knowing that she had prepared and was ready for whatever event that was to come. Her pre-arranged funeral has brought some needed relief as it is easier to follow her instructions then to decide on how best to say goodbye. It wouldn't surprise any of us that she selected the day to leave us. Her strong spirit is now released from her worn body, and she has gone to that better place to be with her Creator.
Wildonne Dorilas Cordon, for all that you have done, you will never be forgotten. Rest in peace.
