He began his early education in Kingston, where he attended Convent Basic School, St. Aloysius Middle School, and was later transferred to St. Barnabas All Age School.
He started his apprenticeship after graduation as a Bicycle Technician. He later embarked in his own business known as Douzenburgh Cycle Clinic, located at 55 Asquith Street, Jones Town, Jamaica West Indies.
He migrated to the U.K. in 1952, where he lived for 13 years. He was offered the opportunity to relocate to Canada for 5 years and then to the United States of America in Buffalo, New York. Upon his retirement, he relocated to his country of birth with his wife, Liane, and resided in Falmouth, Trelawny for 31 years. Operating their family business, Liane’s Guest House. Because of failing health and loss of vision, he returned to the United States in September 2017.
Roy Johnson Sr. passed away on January 22, 2021 in West Palm Beach, Florida. His remains are under the care of Caballero Rivero Southern Cemetery, in North Miami Beach, Florida.
Blessed with 8 children: Carol, Howard, John, Andree, Jacqueline, Tanya, Michelle, and Roy Jr. and daughter-in-law Barbara Johnson.
13 grandchildren: Carlene, Adian, Jermaine, Tiffany, Tamara, Roniece, Chaz, David, Matthew, Justin, Jared, Jason, and Jasmine.
7 great grandchildren: Tafari, Justin, Jason, Madison, Mckenna, Sydney, and Ca’Ron.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Tanya, son Andree and wife of 49 years Liane Erika Johnson.
He also survived by sisters: Mrs. Sylvia McKenzie, Mrs. Joyce Steele, Ms. Norma Johnson, and brother Ansel and sister in-law Faye Johnson.
Also left to mourn are loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends Adrian Dockeray, Violet Pinto, and other dear relatives and dear friends.
Roy was charmingly handsome, possessed in his convictions, and had a sharp sense of humor. He love his family, animals, traveling, jazz music and dancing. He also had a great appreciation for plants and nature. Roy was an artist in having the ability to transform old things to new with his strong hands, hard work and integrity. He was a fighter, an adventurer, and a trailblazer, determined to live his life on his term, never to be dictated to by society’s restraint. “He did it his way”. He will be dearly missed.
