A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ann cherished time with her family and friends and adored the company of her little dog, Mattie.
She was a talented gardener and painter, and enjoyed golf and bridge in her spare time. Known for her gracious hospitality, Ann loved any excuse to gather loved ones and celebrate.
Born in Melbourne, Australia, to Dorrit and Ray Worssam, Ann spent her early years between Australia and New Zealand with her brother John. After attending Nga Tawa School for Girls in Wellington, she moved to Old Greenwich, Connecticut, when her father joined Standard Oil Company in Manhattan.
Ann earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Connecticut, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
While at UConn, Ann met Charles (“Chuck”) David Harless. They married in Greenwich, Connecticut, on October 28, 1956, and shared a life filled with adventure.
Following Chuck’s honorable discharge as a first lieutenant in the US Army, his career with Caterpillar Tractor Company took the family to Illinois, Morocco, Kenya, and Switzerland, moving an impressive 13 times before settling in Palm Beach County, Florida, in the early 1990s. Chuck passed away in 1999.
In 2002, Ann married Rupert Cecil Barnes, with whom she shared many happy years in Tequesta. She spent her final years at Mangrove Bay located in Jupiter, Florida, where she was affectionately known as “Queen Ann” for her elegance, warmth, and ever-present touch of lipstick.
Ann had the ability to make every house a home, her love of family traditions, and her generosity of spirit remains cherished by her friends and family.
She leaves behind her 3 beloved children, 7 adored grandchildren and 3 cherished great grandchildren, as well as her devoted caregivers, who surrounded her with kindness and care for many years.
