Florence R. Stevens of North Palm Beach, Florida, passed away May 13, 2024, three days shy of her 100th birthday. Born May 16, 1924 in Stamford, Conn. to Bruno and Teresa Robotti, she was the fifth of seven children. On January 26, 1946, she married her husband Wallace Warren Stevens, who preceded her in death in 1990. After moving from Connecticut to North Palm Beach in 1967, they owned and operated Wally’s Place Restaurant on Northlake Blvd. for 23 years.
She was a longtime parishioner at St. Clare Catholic Church in North Palm Beach, where she was actively involved in the Council of Catholic Women and served as president. Most Monday mornings into her early 90s, she could be found alongside her friends in the parish office counting the weekly collection. An involved grandmother, she spent her afternoons and evenings at practices, games, or recitals. Wherever her family was and whatever they were doing, she was right there with them. There was nothing she loved more than being a mother–except perhaps being a grandmother and great-grandmother. “Flo” was an amazing cook and her home was always open to her family and friends for incredible meals. Through crossword puzzles, the Jumble, Rummikub and, in recent years the “Wordle,” she kept her mind and memory agile until the end of her life. She watched Jeopardy nearly every night and loved watching sports with her family on the weekends, especially golf.
She spent her later years at Discovery Village of Palm Beach Gardens, where she served as President of the Residents’ Council and organized the annual Employee Appreciation Fund at Christmastime. There, she formed close friendships with both her fellow residents and her dedicated caregivers.
She is survived by her six children and their spouses: Mrs. Karen (Edward) Tomlinson, Jupiter, Fla.; Mrs. Nancy (Dennis) Smith, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; Mr. Wallace (Lynn) Stevens, Jr., Jupiter, Fla.; Mrs. Eloise (Steve) Davis, Afton, Okla.; Mr. John (Nicole) Stevens, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; Mrs. Carolyn (Edward) Stone, Juno Beach, Fla; as well as 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held at Howard-Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 754 U.S. Hwy One in North Palm Beach on Tuesday, May 21 from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, May 22 at St. Clare Catholic Church, 821 Prosperity Farms Rd., North Palm Beach.
