Gone but not forgotten. Herbert (Herb) Walter Anderson Lozott. Life resident of Riviera Beach and Lake Park Florida.
Herb was born in Syracuse, New York to Norman Franklin Lozott and Dorothy Anderson Lozott on September 10, 1945.
During his first year, he and his mother moved to 37th Street in Riviera Beach and shared a residence with his Grandparents, Walter Anderson and Grace Harvey Anderson. They lived there until about 1950, when they moved to Lake Park. After moving a number of times into houses that his grandfather built, he eventually lived on Bayberry Drive with his mother, Stepfather Jim Morrow, and his grandparents.
Herb attended Kindergarten held in Kelsey Park, Lake Park Elementary School, and Riviera Beach Junior / Senior High School, where he graduated (barely) in 1963.
Herb then decided to serve his country and joined the Army. During Herb’s time in the Army, he received basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Medical Corpsman training at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. His permanent duty station was Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Herb was deployed with the 584th Medical Company (Ambulance) to the Dominican Republic in May of 1965, for which he received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Ribbon. For political reasons, the D.R. was designated a “Live Fire Zone” rather than a combat zone and he bravely encountered that during his deployment. Fortunately, he was not injured. He returned state side and was honorably discharged from active duty. After being discharged he spent 13 months with the 3220th Army Reserve in West Palm Beach. Serving in part with the Provost Marshals Office. After his thirteen month assignment, he was discharged into the reserves.
He returned to Florida and attended Palm Beach Junior College (Palm Beach State College) and Florida Atlantic University receiving a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education in 1970.
During his time at PBJC, he married Imogene (Genie) Brantley and had two sons, James Walter Lozott (Jamie) and Keith Norman Lozott. They are two of his proudest accomplishments.
Later, Herb met Karen Hicks, the love of his life. She had come to Florida to celebrate her 21st Birthday. It was love at first sight. They would eventually marry and be partners for life.
Herb was employed by Florida Power and Light for 30 years at the Riviera Power Plant.
Herb enjoyed the ocean, including fishing with his sons and boating, especially on classic boats such as his Shamrock.
He loved riding his vintage Vespas and Triumph 650 around town. He also was a master at restoring vintage Vespas and Cushmans as well as classic Triumph motorcycles. He enjoyed going on long touring trips on his BMW and Honda ST motorcycles.
Many days you could find him working in his garage and yard and building and repairing most anything. If you stopped by, he would love to share stories about his past adventures throughout his life.
He kept in contact and remained friends with many of his Riviera Beach Class of 1963 classmates. He was active in his class reunion committee and enjoyed many reunions and get togethers throughout the years, including his 60th, which he just celebrated in April.
Herb faced challenges later in life due to a spinal cord injury. He never gave up and showed his incredible determination, courage and fortitude throughout the remainder of his life. He had a positive attitude and was an inspiration to many.
He was a baptized Christian and now awaits the arrival of his loving wife Karen to be with him for eternity.
Herb will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Herb is survived by his wife Karen, along with his sons Jamie (Jennifer) of West Palm Beach and Keith (Erin) of Palm City, six grandchildren, Jamie and Jennifer’s children, Robert (Margeaux), Jessica, Michelle, Briana and Jamilea and Keith and Erin’s child Ava. Also, his cousin Betsy Paluska of West Palm Beach and her daughter Kim of Aiken SC and Cousin Jane Kuchta of Oneida, NY.
Herb was predeceased by his parents Dorothy Morrow, Stepfather Jim Morrow, Father Norman Lozott, Grandfather Walter Anderson, Grandmother Grace Anderson, Cousins Jim Lozott (Pat), Karleen Millard and Cousin-in-Law Earl Paluska. Aunt Harriet Millard (Curtis) and Uncle Hugh Anderson (Beverly).
