He is preceded in death by his first wife, Nora Ackerson Murray; and his parents, Anna and James Murray.
Jim was born in Albany, NY on July 1, 1923. After graduating from high school in 1941, he served our country in the US Army during WWII, stationed in the South Pacific and Japan. Upon his return to the US, he attended Siena College and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting.
Jim began his career within the telecommunications industry as Director of Regulatory Accounting at Western Union Telegraph Company. He quickly moved on to become Treasurer for Western Union International (WUI), and in January of 1971, advanced to become Executive VP and CFO of the company. On May 1, 1974 he was elected to the Board of Directors of WUI.
Jim retired in 1982 but continued his work in the telecommunications industry as a consultant to Teleport Communications and as a member of the Board of Directors of World Communications. Jim was also on the Board of Trustees at St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry, NY and later at Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter, FL. He served terms as Chairman of both boards.
Jim was an avid golfer. His interest in golf began when, as a young boy, he worked as a caddy at the Albany Country Club. He held memberships at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, NJ and Tequesta Country Club in Tequesta, FL. He also served on the Board at Tequesta Country Club.
Jim is survived by his wife, Lorraine Murray; his two brothers, John and Robert; his two daughters, Patricia Kiernan and Caroline Rahill, and their husbands, Paul Kiernan and David Rahill; four grandchildren and their families – James Kiernan; Julie Rahill and her husband, Timmy Campbell; Emily Rahill and her husband, Kevin Young; and Allison Rahill; and by his two stepdaughters, Laurie Maxson and Lisa Maxson.
The funeral mass will be held at St. Paul of the Cross Church, North Palm Beach, FL at 11 am on Saturday, August 4, 2018.
