Tribute to Veronica Valdez Anderson: My Friend: South Florida Water


The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. 
The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.

In His Strength

No dam, no dyke shall ever withstand
The grace, the poise He'd put in her span
The flood gates He'd shut just for this one
While others would bellow in frenzy to plan
For time after time others would cry
It's hurricane season, surely who'll stop the skies
Get ready, get packing storms coming, look out
Yet, for her stopped He the flood waters of the south

Though other floods threatened to sever her soul
Yet this bold zebra her posture unfold
Though turmoil dare hiss as her grace she wields
The Mighty fortress was indeed her shield
Her quiet composure would gracefully sway
And stayed the wretched billows pointing her way
Rapacious boulders tried to block her borders
But favor and glory propped elements in order

This herbaceous plant from our tropical region
With victorious vibes diffused every season
With purple blue hues spiked her their laughter
Averting always impending disaster
Why Veronica, my friend it's only so long
With you we still sing redemption songs
Kick off your shoes dig your feet in the sand
You are safe and secured in the Master's hand

Valdez, God needed an angel in heaven and tapped you for the project.  

I grew up with Valdez in Orange Hill.  We - pretty much all the children - played on the commons across from her home.  We played bat-and-run-a-goal, hide and seek and other games;  we even laid straight on the grass and rolled down the hill.  Then we sort of grew up, got scholarships to different schools across Browns Town.  Regardless of which high school we attended, we were still friends. Life was possibly simple, but we sure had fun. We were a close community. I remember when practically all the children in the district filled up her Dad's (Mass Ivan) truck while he drove up to Alexandria hospital to visit Jennifer (her appendix had ruptured and that was serious); or when her dad loaded us on the truck to go to a cricket match.  Those trips were awesome.  

Valdez was one of the kindest persons I know.  I really think she got it from her dad.  Whenever we bought candy, etc. at her mom's store...she always gave us a handful of extra coins.  She always wore a smile.  

Eventually we migrated; and even though I'm in California, we kept in touch (by phone and e-mail). I still owe her an e-mail.  

I am so sorry for your(our) loss Ms. Ethel, Jennifer, Andy, Ken (Bull) and Paul.  To Valdez' daughter, I pray that God will surround you fully with his blessings.  

Rest in peace Valdez.   You will always be a part of my story.  Sandra Samuels (Orange Hill), but now in Burbank, CA.
