Dan-Cristian Balutescu, a beloved husband, father, son, and friend, left us on April 2, 2025, at the age of 54. In 2024, he suffered an unfortunate accident that led to a prolonged battle with severe injuries. Though he fought with immense courage and resilience, his body ultimately became too frail to continue the fight.
Born on May 17, 1970, in Bucharest, Romania, Dan-Cristian was the only child of Ana and Marian Balutescu. He graduated from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest with a Master’s degree in Nonferrous Metallic Materials with Special Applications.
In 2003, Dan-Cristian, alongside his wife Cristina, made the courageous decision to emigrate to Canada in search of new opportunities and a better life for their family. His determination and resilience shone brightly as he embraced the challenges of adapting to a new country and culture, always carrying a heart full of hope and a strong desire to serve others. Through hard work and perseverance, Dan-Cristian was able to validate his education abroad, achieving the prestigious status of Professional Engineer in Canada.
Family was the cornerstone of Dan-Cristian’s life. His love for his wife, Cristina, and their daughters, Diana, and Alexandra, was immeasurable. He poured his heart and soul into his family, cherishing every moment with them. His ambition was always focused on providing a life filled with love, faith, and security for his loved ones. Dan-Cristian taught his daughters the importance of these values, showing them the strength that comes from faith and love.
A devout Christian, Dan-Cristian exemplified the love and grace of Christ in all areas of his life. His faith was his foundation, guiding him through challenges with a strong work ethic and a commitment to giving his best in every endeavor—whether within his family, his professional life, or his community. He was always ready to lend a hand, offering support to family members, colleagues, and neighbors in need.
The psalms Dan-Cristian read on the morning of his accident—Psalm 22 and Psalm 23—seem to have prepared him for the following fifteen months of suffering:
"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me,
so far from my cries of anguish?
My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,
by night, but I find no rest.”
"You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.”
Dan-Cristian leaves behind his loving wife Cristina, daughters Diana and Alexandra, his father Marian, mother-in-law Maria, brother and sister -in-law Nelutu and Luminita, nephew Alexandru, as well as his aunt, cousins, and countless friends. His legacy of love, faith, and compassion will forever live in the hearts of those who were fortunate to call him family, friend, and mentor.
