Donald died peacefully in hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Predeceased by his wife Ayliffe; brother Neil and sister Marybeth.
Survived by his sister Nancy (Dave); daughter Tamira (Callum) ; grandchildren Ayliffe and Zillah; son Nevin and grandchildren Nicholas and Kara; son Kerry and longtime close companion Cynthia and many nieces and nephews.
Donald lived and studied in Canada, Japan and the U.K. which led to a Ph D in Asian Studies. He authored as book on Japanese coal-mining women and continued another book translating interviews of these women.
Donald was a social activist and a champion for the rights of all. He loved hiking (rambling in the U.K.) traveling, birding, playing Scrabble, poetry, music, art and architecture.
