Donald Dale Wilson or as we called him, Don, passed away March 29, 2025, after a sudden short illness. We are filled with a mix of sadness and gratitude - sadness for the loss of a remarkable individual, but immense gratitude for the privilege of having known him.
Don was the 4th eldest of 10 children. He leaves behind 3 sisters, Hazel, Wendy and Verna; as well as 3 brothers, Jim, Al and Ray. He has many nieces and nephews, who were very dear to him. His siblings’ earliest memories were of him showing a great work ethic and a constant source of inspiration.
Don was a man of many facets, he started his career in retail department stores, later ventured into the restaurant business with Hamburger Mary’s on Davie Street. After the 24-hour days took its toll. Don, moved on to opening, several stores, Needful things, a 2nd hand furniture store, followed up by a clothing store on Davie Street and then a 2nd clothing store on Denman Street.
Don continued his journey by starting EP Products Canada with his sister and brother-in-law. This wholesale/import business flourished with Don at the helm, and he soon brought on his niece Angie, making it a family affair. Don loved the challenge, he thrived on building relationships with suppliers, vendors, and store owners. He helped navigate the challenges of retail, educating them, sharing his knowledge with anyone who showed an interest.
Don's passion &sincerity was evident in everything he did. After a tragic accident with one of the owners of Little Sisters in 2013, Don and his sister purchased the store.
His dedication to the Little Sisters Store, where he spent the latter part of his career, was truly admirable. He approached his work with the same enthusiasm he brought to his commitment to a healthy, fit lifestyle.
One of Don's most endearing qualities was his sense of humor. He loved to tease and joke, bringing laughter and light to every gathering. The Christmas exchanges, where someone ended up with an adult toy, had everyone in laughter. It was moments like these that made Don so special and unforgettable. He was thoughtful and could strike up a conversation with anyone. As a mentor, Don influenced countless lives with his strong work ethic. He taught the value of hard work & dedication.
His legacy lives on in the lessons he imparted and the lives he touched. I believe if Don were here today, he would want us to remember his teasing personality and how he always bought treats for everyone. He would want us to carry forward his spirit of generosity and his ability to find joy in life's simple pleasures.
As we bid farewell to Don, let us remember that while he may no longer be with us physically, his memory will forever live on in our hearts. We will miss him dearly, but we can honor his legacy by embodying the values he held dear, hard work, and a zest for life.
Don, thank you for the laughter, the wisdom, and the love you shared with us all. Your memory will be a blessing, forever cherished and never forgotten.
