Eamonn Ward, age 86 of Pitt Meadows British Columbia passed from this life after a short illness on the evening of November 24th 2025 surrounded by those he loved. Eamonn was preceded in death by his wife Therese, parents Bernard and Rose, and siblings Bridget O’Neill, Jimmy, Bernard, Maureen McDonald, Philomena Fitzgerald, Lily Kearney, and Pearse.
He followed his father into the plumbing trade and served his apprenticeship in the Harland and Wolf shipyard and was a 50 year member of Local 170 of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union in BC. He also cherished the time he spent working alongside his brother Bernard as they made their way in a new country; a partnership often lively but always sustaining. He was a superb athlete, a member of Pádraig Sáirséil GLC since boyhood representing the club in Gaelic Football, Hurling as well as many selections to various Antrim teams. Sports of all kinds were a source of great joy to him and he passed that love to younger generations both as a soccer coach for Vikings, Burdett, and North Van. Utd., and as a teacher and mentor to his children and grandchildren. He competed as part of the Pádraig Sáirséil Ceili dance team under the direction of his sister Eileen. Eamonn had a remarkable singing voice and could be prevailed upon at any family gathering to share a ballad or rousing rebel song. He also lent his voice to the St. Agnes Choral society, performing in several productions at the Waterford Festival of Light Opera. Eamonn was happiest at any gathering of immediate or extended family, in latter years watching his grandchildren enjoying the craic around the dinner table or having a sing-song after dinner. He was generous of heart and his “love language” was food. An avid fisherman, his idea of a casual potluck offering was a twenty-five pound sockeye salmon he had caught garnished with five pounds of prawns and six lobsters. He is survived by: his partner Barbara May and her family; his sister Eileen McGuinness; his children Pearse, Carmel, Marierose, and Eamonn and their spouses/partners Christie Ward, Wayne Shaw, Desmond McDonnell, and Wendy Jung; grandchildren Ciaran, Conor, Brenna, and Niamh (McDonnell), Brendan and Caitlin (Shaw), and Charlie and Abby (Ward); their spouses/partners Nicole, Tiana (McDonnell), Mark O’Connor and Derrick Wilms; great grandsons Oisin McDonnell and Rowan Wilms. The funeral for Eamonn will be held at St. Edmund’s Church 545 Mahon Avenue, North Vancouver, BC on January 2nd 2026 at 11AM. To honor Eamonn’s belief in the power of sport to enhance the lives of young people, in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to KidSport BC an organization which provides opportunities for families without financial resources to participate in youth sport (https://sportbc.com/kidsport/). Eamonn faced several serious health challenges later in his life. He met them with the strength, courage and determination which he exemplified in his life and with no shortage of humour.
