On March 13, 2019, our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, affectionately called GG, passed on as she was approaching her 103rd birthday.
The family home on Mayne Island echoes her presence. She and her late husband Art opened the doors to family and friends in 1978. They spent many happy years there, active in the music club and the bridge club. Eileen and Art created a legacy of a place for their family to be together.
Eileen was a professional artist. She enjoyed time in her studio, painting watercolours of local beaches, historic sites and the natural wonder of Mayne Island. Her artistic talents were reflected in various mediums, ranging from oils to graphics, collage and watercolours. She was recognized as one of the top 100 artists in Canada. She was also an amazing illustrator. If you’d like to see some of her illustrations, go to www.lulu.com and search for Diane Williams.
Later in life Eileen turned to writing. She produced 2 novels, a series of short stories and numerous delightful books for children. With the editing help of her daughter Diane, Eileen completed the last group of short stories at the age of 102. If you’d like to read some of her books, please go to www.lulu.com and search for Eileen Reiber.
Eileen was remarkably talented, spirited, courageous and classy.
She was fiercely independent and lived on her own until she was 98.
First and foremost she wanted to be remembered as a loving wife and mother.
She is sadly missed by her children Marilyn, Kent and Diane, her grandchildren Stephanie, Stacie, Travis, Bryn and Rhett, her great-grandchildren Madison, Jacen, Brady, Owen and Grayson, and her step-grandchildren Amanda and Alex.
If you’d like to add a memory or a story please do!
To all who knew her well she would toast you from her garden with a "tinkly" gin and tonic and this Irish blessing~
"May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind always be at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
And the rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of His hand"~
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.MeM.com for the Reiber family.
