Ellen was born in Edmonton, Alberta, to Otto and Nora Olesen. She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Stan Lewis, and her siblings Debbie (Gord) and Ken (Lavern). She is predeceased by her parents and big brother Dennis (Shirley). Ellen will be remembered for her unwavering compassion and kindness to all who knew her. She touched the hearts of all with her unconditional love, gracious nature and selflessness. She regaled us with her adventures from young adulthood: her career in Japan, flying lessons that led to a pilot’s license and managing an Italian band to name a few.
On September 10, 1983, she married her high school sweetheart, Stan, and they built a life together in North Vancouver. She was a cherished mother to Rachel (Greg), Vanessa (Ryan), Kim (Sean), Dylan (Leslie) and beloved family dog Kia, and loving grandmother to Georgia, Evangeline, Evan, and her fur grandbabies Kona, Dusty and Mike.
Ellen’s greatest passion was her family. Treasured memories include family trips to Hawaii, Whistler and Disneyland; Arizona golf getaways with Stan, and summer road trips to Alberta to visit many extended family members and friends. She always remembered birthdays and made everyone around her feel loved. Ellen was an amazing cook, hosting unforgettable Christmas feasts and always made everyone feel welcome. Ellen shared our love for nature, and we spent our last days together in the serenity of her backyard. She was an avid gardener, and we delighted in the hummingbirds and woodpeckers that stopped by to visit her stunning flowers. We will find peace in the birds, the trees and the stars that remind us of Ellen’s eternal spirit.
A Celebration of Ellen’s life will be held in the Spring of 2021, in North Vancouver.
Donations in Ellen’s honour may be given to The BC Transplant Society.
