Peacefully passed away on November 23, 2020 from cancer.
She was born on September 2, 1930 the third of 9 children.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Moebes in 2002, her partner, Clare Kerr in 2009, her parents, Allan & Elma Smith, brothers Alistair and Norman Smith and sisters Olive Pearson and Mabes Friedel.
She is lovingly remembered by her sisters Patricia Robertson, Muriel (Cecil) Schmidt, Rhoda Matner and Fran (Rick) De Avila, numerous nieces and nephews and many cherished friends.
Elma worked in North Vancouver for many years at the North Shore Winter Club.
Her husband was working mainly on Pender Island and Elma found travelling back and forth each weekend became a tiring situation so she moved there as well.
She became very actively involved in many community activities. One thing was Elma and her husband Jim coordinated the Christmas Care Tree for the Lions Club on Pender Island. This monumental task included soliciting funds, recording donations and writing thank you letters.
After Jim's passing, Elma moved back to North Vancouver.
Elma has enjoyed a variety of interests and hobbies, from gardening, golfing, playing the organ to all the activities at Parkgate Center - crafts, cards, exercise classes and charity events. With all of these endeavours, she has made and enjoyed the friendships of so many special friends.
We want to thank the staff at Lion's Gate Hospital for their compassionate care. Also, a special thank you to Elma's long time friend, Elsie, who has so lovingly assisted Elma through this transition over the last few weeks.
Per Elma's wishes, she is to be creamated and, due to Covid-19, no memorial services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
Elma will most certainly be missed by many!
