It is with great sadness but eternal gratitude that we announce the passing of Francis Roland Caouette at the age of 72, after a short but courageous battle with esophageal cancer, which was diagnosed in December 2025. Francis is survived by his wife Bonnie, children Adam and Dayna, son-in-law Freddie Leigh, beloved grandchildren Willamena, Evalina, Madeleine, Adelaide, and Delilah, brothers-in-law Jim Hammill, Tom Hammill, and Lloyd Larocque, sister-in-law Laurie Larocque, many nieces and nephews, sisters June and Pauline, and pre-deceased by brother Paul.
Francis was born in Spirit River, Alberta to Roland and Jane Caouette, and grew up in Kelowna BC. He moved to Vancouver in the mid 1970s, where he would meet his future wife Bonnie Hammill. They were married in 1977, and started their family in Richmond, BC. He started his career with the City of North Vancouver as a Business Licence Inspector in the early 1980s, and would quickly advance through progressive roles, working with care, diligence, and tireless energy. Throughout his career and in his final role as Director of Corporate Services, he made great and lasting contributions to civic development, and many colleagues became lifelong friends. He was always active - running, hiking, cycling, and honing his skills in the kitchen. His retirement was filled with his favourite pursuits - golf, weightlifting, home improvement, reading, and spending time with friends and family. He continued to serve his community as a member of the Kiwanis North Shore Society, contributing to the development of affordable housing projects in North and West Vancouver.
His was a life of constant learning and self-improvement, completing the Camino de Santiago in Spain, and always sharing his knowledge, insight and tireless energy with his family and friends. He loved working around the house, and maintained his lawn and garden with considerable care and expertise. He had a keen intellect that never tired, and only seemed to sharpen throughout the years.
Francis and Bonnie would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary July 2, 2026. While we are deeply saddened by this loss, we are forever grateful for the life he built, the lessons he shared, and the love he gave.
