George was a loving husband to his wife, Doreen Jenkins for 73 years. He was an amazing and involved father to his daughters, Sandra and Sarah and his son, Christopher. George was a proud grandpa to John Patrick, Justin, Jessica, Ashleigh, and Brittany. as well as 3 great grandchildren, Emerson, Braelynn, and Keller.
George served in the Queen’s Guards in England and had many stories to tell about those years! He and his wife, Doreen and daughter Sandra immigrated to B.C., Canada in 1964 and he had a long and successful career as a Mechanical Engineer. He retired from BC Hydro in 1992 but continued to provide consulting services for several years following.
George loved music and many times would play an instrument at the local Legion where he and Doreen liked to spend an evening dancing with friends.
George became and avid hockey fan when he and his daughter both learned to skate when he was 51! He then went on to take a Referee training course so that he could referee some of her games. He joined a men’s hockey team and scored an epic goal bouncing the puck off his rear end!!!
George also loved his beer! Always practical and money conscious he started making his own beer. It was quite the process, but he enjoyed it and the end result!
In his final years at the Berkley Care Centre, George was involved in all the activities – he loved the music therapy, cards, trivia and talking with the other patients. All the staff and patients and their families knew and loved him! He was always so positive and caring and encouraged the other patients to participate in the activities – ‘Use It or Lose It’ was one of his favourite sayings. Whenever we went to visit him he was never in his room and we’d find him visiting with someone and regaling them with his many stories!
A Celebration of Life will be hosted by the Berkley Care Centre virtually on Zoom on: April 25th , 2023 from 11:15am – 11:30am
